"Is this the kind of fast I have chosen,
only a day for people to humble themselves?
Is it only for bowing one’s head like a reed
and for lying in sackcloth and ashes?
Is that what you call a fast,
a day acceptable to the Lord?" Isaiah 58:5
Today, we will look at Isaiah 58:5.
What pleases God?
Do religious rituals please Him?
Do pure hearts and clean hands please Him?
I was raised in a variety of churches.
During my early years, we attended a Nazarene church.
Most of my life was spend in Pentecostal to non-denominational churches.
I was educated at a Mennonite high school and attended a Baptist college.
I married a Brethren.
Some of my dearest friends are devout Catholics.
I consider myself to be a spiritual potpourri.
I have experienced emotional, expressive worship as well as gentle, peaceful worship.
Both are pleasing to God, as long as our hearts are right and our motives are pure.
Heavenly Father, I invite You to search me. Reveal to me the condition of my heart. Your Word is clear, "Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” (John 4:23-24) Have Your way in me today! I want to be a true worshipper!
