“He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.” Isaiah 40:11 (NIV)
Today, consider being a blessing to someone who is caring for little ones.
Do you know a mother or father who is overwhelmed today?
We can be His hands and feet to those who are pouring out, hour by hour, day after day.
Caring for children can be exhausting.
When my twins were born, my firstborn was two years old.
While caring for three little ones under the age of two and a half, sleepless nights, countless diaper changes, and unending feedings kept me in a trance-like state.
I remembered a discussion I had had with someone I trusted as a mentor in my life, just months before the twins were born.
”I hope someone will offer to help be out when the babies are born.”
Her words stung me, “This is yours to figure out. You cannot expect anyone to help you.”
I knew in that moment who I would not call if I needed help.
I also resolved that I would offer compassion and care to young mothers in need, even when my own children were grown.
I prayed, "Lord, help me to never forget the overwhelming exhaustion that comes with being a parent of little ones.”
I can offer a kind word or pray for a distraught mother.
I can prepare a meal and hold a fussy newborn so an exhausted mom can take a shower.
I can babysit active toddlers so that moms and dads can go on a date.
Heavenly Father, give me eyes to see and ears to hear the needs of those around me. I want to care for others the way You care for them, Help me to get my eyes off of myself and represent Your love to someone today. Bless those who care for little ones. Grant them strength to make sound decisions, despite the weariness they feel. Hold them close to Your heart and remind them that there is no greater calling than caring for the little lambs You have given them.
